On arrival in Australia in the early nineties I was astounded by the orchestral sounds of the native birds at dawn. The vibrancy of their plumage and the strange haunting and humorous songs soon became familiar to me, I knew I needed to paint them. Walking in the bush on my second day the smell of the eucalyptus was just amazing, the height of the gum trees stunning and the constant clicking of cicadas and crickets, intense barmy heat and dusty dirt roads tapped into all of my senses as never before.
Whilst in Australia, in addition to my private commissions I taught watercolour painting at an Adult Education College.
